As if to herald the the Orionids, a yearly meteor shower caused by the Earth traveling through the dust and debris left by Halley's Comet, a dramatic fireball was seen and even heard throughout the San Francisco Bay Area on the night of Wednesday Oct. 17. Although in the beginning lots of thought that the fireball was connected to the Orionids, it turns out it was unrelated since it did not fit the appropriate trajectory. The 18 individual pictures which comprise this charming animation were taken by Bay Area citizen Bob Moreno who was watching the sky that Wednesday. The time stamp on the images is 1 minute and 15 seconds ahead of official U.S. time. Click here to check out more about the Orionids. Image credit: NASA/Robert P. Moreno Jr.
